Secondary Education

The NIOS Secondary course is equivalent to Class 10 in traditional schooling. To earn certification, students must complete a minimum of five subjects, including at least one language, with the option to choose a second language.

Students select their languages from Group A and choose the remaining subjects from Group B, tailoring their education to their interests and future goals. This flexible structure allows students to focus on areas that best suit their strengths and aspirations.

Senior Secondary Education

The NIOS Senior Secondary course is equivalent to Class 12 in traditional schooling. It offers students a flexible learning pathway, allowing them to pursue education alongside other commitments. To obtain certification, students must complete a minimum of five subjects, including at least one language.

Students have the flexibility to choose their subjects from a diverse range of options, selecting at least one language from Group A and the remaining subjects from Group B. This structure enables students to tailor their education according to their interests, career goals, and academic strengths, providing a comprehensive and personalized learning experience.

Additional Facility: Transfer of Credit (TOC)

One of the most beneficial features of the NIOS Secondary and Senior Secondary courses is the Transfer of Credit (TOC) facility. This option is especially advantageous for students who have previously failed their SSLC (Class 10) or Plus Two (Class 12) exams. Under the TOC scheme, students do not need to retake all the subjects they previously passed. Instead, NIOS allows the transfer of credits for up to two subjects that were successfully passed in previous board exams. These transferred marks are recognized and included in the NIOS Board certificates, meaning students only need to reappear for the exams in the subjects they did not pass. This facility provides a streamlined pathway for students to complete their education and receive their certifications.
